Foghat Concert Reviews 1974

Concert Reviews '74

20 August ... Chicago, IL ... Auditorium Theatre

The 2 Foghat shows in 1974 Aug.19-20 in Chicago, were played at the Auditorium Theatre with The Climax Blues Band. Great shows they were too! We tried to get tickets for the 1st show but they were sold out. It was good timing because we got 3rd row for the 2nd show! They were a hungry band back then and played the Savoy Brown version of Leaving Again! I've seen the band many times since, ( 8 ) and I was never disappointed. I'm still a Savoy Brown fan and we are going to see Kim in Santa Cruz, CA next month. Lonesome Dave & Kim made a great team. God bless Lonesome Dave wherever he is!

25 August ... Medford, OR ... Medford Armory

In August of 1974 some friends and I drove the 3 hours from our hometown of Myrtle Point, Oregon to the Medford Armory to see Foghat. We were all recent high school graduates. It was incredibly hot that day. We were standing very near the stage and Lonesome Dave said "Damn it's hot here!" We left before the first encore because of the heat to cool off in a local motel swimming pool (we weren't quests there). As we were walking away we heard the first of two encores start up and began kicking ourselves for leaving early. Besides that, all I can remember of the show is that Foghat was fantastic. It was the first time some of us had heard them. It wasn't the last. I still have all Foghats' early albums and would love to see them on tour again.

5 December ... Madison, WI ... Dane County Coliseum

It is tough to remember events of nearly 30 years ago. I was down front, near the stage. Where Camel was spacey and progressive and Wishbone Ash had their orchestrated rock sound, Foghat came in to boogie. It was music you had to move to. It was one of the first times I had watched anyone play slide guitar. I thoroughly enjoyed the power and interplay of the twin leads. They played Wild cherry, Home In My Hand, Dreamer, Rock And Roll Outlaw, I Just Want To Make Love To You, Chateau Lafitte '59 Boogie, Eight Days On The Road. The concert made an impression on me because I still listen to all three bands. Not bad for $5.50!
