Foghat Concert Reviews 1984

Concert Reviews '84

17 March ... Milwaukee, WI ... Palm's

After seeing Foghat three times in the seventies, my next concert was on Saint Patrick's day, 1984 at the Palms in Milwaukee. It was fun to see them up close in a more intimate setting and it was also the only time I heard them play any eighties songs. They opened with "And I Do Just What I Want" from the "In The Mood For Something Rude" album, then "Fool For The City" and "My Babe". In addition to the usual favorites they played "Slipped, Tripped, Fell In Love" (ITMFSR) with a sax player, from "Girls To Chat And Boys To Bounce" they did "Wide Boy" and "Live Now Pay Later" (the eight minute album version is one of my favorites, the shorter single length on Best of Volume 2 is missing an awesome guitar solo). The place was packed and the crowd called them back for a couple of encores, the final one being "Down The Road A Piece" from "Zig Zag Walk".

9 May ... Cleveland, OH ... Agora

Foghat comes back to the Cleveland Agora with a free show on the WMMS 100.7 FM coffee break concert series, a weekly free show that showcased local talent as well as big name groups. Lo Dave, Roger, Eric and a surprise to see Craig back on bass for this show. This was "sro" with speakers outside as the place filled to capacity. Fool For The City opened the show followed by My Babe, the radio host DJ talked with Dave after every 3rd song as they performed 8 Days-Stone Blue-Wide Boy-and the show stopper for me Honey Hush- followed by IJWTMLTY which incorporated the song Sarah Lee from their first album, a very nice and fitting touch, then came Slow Ride which always gets people groovin' followed by a surprise encore of Maybelline also from the 1st album and a tune I haven't heard since the Tight Shoes World Tour. The band was pretty tight today being an early concert and Eric's guitar work was standout and best of all this simulcast show I most recently found out is available on cd.
