Concert Reviews '96

Saturday - May 18 ..... Gary's ..... Orlando, FLA.

They did indeed sound great Saturday night despite what they themselves may have thought. From where I was standing, it was an outstanding show, they sounded great. Dave worked the crowd into a frenzy and Rod was the standout with some excellent guitar work. He was also very into the performance and it showed. It looked like he might explode during one of his solos. Here's the set list .....

  • Louisiana Blues
  • Drivin' Wheel
  • Motel Shaker
  • Fool For The City
  • Honey Hush
  • It Hurts Me Too
  • Sweet Home Chicago
  • I Just Wanna Make Love To You (with "Who Do You Love" thrown in)
  • Nothin' But Trouble
  • Slow Ride

Saturday - June 8th ..... River Jam ..... Kaukauna, Wisconsin (south of Green Bay)

Foghat played to a crowd of five thousand outdoors in perfect weather. As they came on stage they were laughing their heads off about something. Even after they started playing, Rod would give Dave a goofy look and then crack up. They were really enjoying themselves and it showed. Dave's singing is as strong as ever, and Rod really impressed the crowd with his playing, especially during Stone Blue and Honey Hush. I overheard someone say, "Wow, these guys are great." After the show, they all signed my 25th anniversary hat and photo, and I had my picture taken with Dave and Roger. They were all very gracious and nice to talk to. Tony said he had worked as an actor, doing comedy and soap operas, and played in the band Midnight Flyer which opened for AC/DC in 1981. They also told me what they have in mind for the next CD is new studio recordings on half, and also live versions of songs like Drivin' Wheel and Stone Blue which weren't on the live album.

Friday - June 21 ..... Bijou Theatre ..... Knoxville, TN

I've been a Foghat fan since about 1972. Saw them the first time in '74. After the show, they set up a table in the lobby and signed autographs. I showed them some things (the newspaper ad, photos, etc.) from the '74 show. They all remembered it, and gave Tony some ribbing about something that happened at that particular show. Anyway, we had a great time! They sound as good or better than they ever have. It was a real thrill to get to meet and talk with them.

Sunday - June 30 ..... Pine Knob Music Theatre ..... Clarkston, MI

First off, I would like to give my thanks to Carl. Without this web site, I never would have discovered that Foghat was even touring again. Thanks to him, we found out that they were indeed back, and coming to Auburn Hills, at Pine Knob. Needless to say, we managed to snap up tickets a.s.a.p. The show was superb, as we knew it would be! I must add, that there was a tremendous amout of young people there, which surprised us a little. Being the older generation.... hehehe... Foghat certainly was in great form. They sounded just like they did years ago. I really enjoyed hearing them again, and am thrilled to discover that they're releasing a new album. Anyone who has the pleasure of catching them on their 25th Anniversary Tour is in for a real treat. Thanks, Carl, for keeping us so well informed. I want everyone to know that your dedication goes far beyond this web-site. I met Carl, while looking for a Foghat album from their earlier days. Although he did not wish to part with it, understandably so, he was kind enough to record it and mail a copy at not cost to us. He truly is a very fine fellow and I would like to give him our heartfelt thanks again. To Foghat, thank you for your dedication. We all appreciate your music and love it very much! Keep up the good work.

Sunday - June 30 ..... Pine Knob Music Theatre ..... Clarkston, MI

Outdoor venue (capacity 12,000 plus), in attendance over 5,000.

A hot, humid, sticky night. The 'hat opened with Fool ... The band was tight. The crowd stood for most of the show. They played for a full 90 mins. It was as special as ever. Other tracks included Motel Shaker, Sweet Home Chicago (and medley) as well as Dave fav's It Hurts Me Too and Honey Hush. Roger was HUGE on drums as usual and Tony was rock solid on Bass. Dave contributed his energetic guitar work and still has pipes woven of silk and gold. Rod ... ahhh ... Rod on slide. The slide God did his thing. He ripped through the set like a Rhino in a daisy patch. Rod brought the crowd to their feet, then their knees. This show was an 11 on a scale of 1-10. The show ended for us with an hour backstage with the band. Perhaps the MOST comfortable with themselves and their roles in the band as I've seen them. Dave and Roger showing none of their former hard feelings for the past. I've seen Foghat approx. 25-30 times since the early 70's. Every time it is a thrill and a treat. This show was as great as ever and the show Sept. 1st at the House Of Blues in LA will be the same, I'm sure. A footnote: I saw the band in June of 93 ... exactly three days after the original 4 members reuinted. They were great and didn't "miss" on stage, but backstage, things were still tender. The Pine Knob show was the band as a band. They all kidded back and forth, and all talked very enthusatically of the upcoming Live album to be recorded/shot (yes, a video!) in October in Portland. My brother and I will be there for the weekend shows and will also let you all know about the House Of Blues gig. Stay tuned, these guys are just gettin' their second wind!!!

Friday - July 12 ..... Sensations ..... Grand Forks, ND

On July 12th, I saw my second Foghat concert. I was just as impressed as the first time, and it sounded great. Lonesome Dave and Rod Price made the show. Dave, with his wild eyed stage presence kept the crowd interacting while Price just made great sounds. The music sounded just like their albums, except when they would take off and play a long solo or improvisation. I got the feeling that I was one of only a tiny handful that was familiar with tunes off of "Return of the Boogiemen." They played their benchmark tunes and a cool version of Sweet Home Chicago over a span of 1.5 hours or so. Afterward, they came out and signed autographs, which really surprised me. They personally signed my CD liner of "Boogiemen," along with my FOG hat. Love that hat!

Thursday - July 18 ..... Buffalo Run..... Brainerd, MN

This was a GREAT concert! I went home and threw in the Foghat Live CD and kept jammin! I intend to find another of their concerts and go again! (Just can't get enough!) After 25 years they are still together! I've been to some other classic rock band concerts, and at best, one or two of the original members are still in the band! Keep on Rockin!

Sunday - July 21st ..... Navy Pier Skyline Stage ..... Chicago, IL

I had so much fun seeing Foghat on June 8th I drove from Milwaukee to Chicago to see them again. If it weren't for the tour info. you posted, I wouldn't have seen them at all. It was the 2nd of the band's two nights here and the show was even better than last time. There were some teenage girls wearing brand new "KISS" T-shirts at the show. During "Slow Ride" somebody threw something at Tony that hit him square in the forehead. He didn't seem hurt, but he stopped playing for a moment to feel if he was cut. He did seem very ticked off though (understandably). At another point, a woman ran on stage and grabbed Tony from behind until security pried her loose and tossed her off. I took lots of pictures, and a security guy even took some for me from the stage! Afterwards, I showed the band some of the pictures I took on June 8th, including an 8x10 of me and Roger. They were asking, "How does he rate?" until I explained that I'm a drummer and he is one of the guys who inspired me. Roger laughed and said something about being responsible for leading me down the road to ruin. He autographed it, and now it's in a frame, hanging in the Fool's Hall Of Fame. Thanks, guys!

Sunday - July 28th ..... Cardinal Stadium ..... Louisville, KY

I'd seen Foghat perform on TV in the mid '70s when I was a teenager and remember telling my parents when they asked what I was watching, "A band called Foghat. They're great!", but July 28th was my first time (this time at age 39) actually seeing them play live, and "great" would be an understatement. Billed as Hippie-Fest, the show opened with Iron Butterfly, who played "In a Gadda Da Vida" and then left. Mountain came on next and played longer and better than Iron Butterfly. Finally, from behind the left field wall, in walked Dave, Rod, Roger and Tony to the stage in front of the pitcher's mound. They picked up their instruments, assumed their positions and TORE into "Fool For The City", which set the pace for the rest of their set. I'd seen some great concerts before, and this show was as good as any of them and better than some. Foghat was Excellent! Dave is a master showman with a great voice (and my wife was entertained by him doing jumping jacks while playing guitar). It's impossible to actually be born playing a musical instrument, but I'd swear Rod was born playing slide guitar. He's definitely a master of that. I can't remember the entire set list, although I recognized all of it from my record collection. A couple of songs that sound great on the records managed to sound even better being played live. The show was worth much more than what we paid to get in. I got down front for a few minutes to get a better look and noticed that Dave interacts real well with the audience while playing as well as in between songs. Some performers barely acknowledge the audience, let alone individual people in the audience, and I saw Dave acknowledge the audience in general much of the time as well as smiling at people and appearing to make eye contact with individuals. That's very impressive. Also impressive is that they played with the enthusiasm and energy of a much younger band. This concert was something I'll remember as a highlight of 1996.

Friday - August 2nd ..... Valley Forge Music Fair ..... Devon, PA

On Friday, I saw their show at the Valley Forge Music Fair. They were the headliners, playing with Mountain and Iron Butterfly. The show was great! They are true performers, interacting with the audience. I was most surprised by Dave. He seems so reserved and almost shy off-stage, but once on stage, he becomes very animated and is a pleasure to watch. They played for an hour, the other bands getting about 30 minutes or so. On Saturday, we drove to Syosset, New York where they played once again with the same line-up and were the headliners and again for one hour.

Friday - August 2nd ..... Valley Forge Music Fair ..... Devon, PA

Once again, I did not let an opportunity pass, to see these great rockers peform. I've had the pleasure of catching their act every year for the past four years and each time I've fully enjoyed myself. Overall, the entire show was very good. Black Oak Arkansas opened the night and they were as raunchy as ever. We didn't know what to expect, but were pleasantly entertained. (Jim didn't stop scratchin') Next up was Iron Butterfly. I'll admit, I'm not really up on their stuff, but they did an outstanding job. Their rendition of "Inna Gadda Da Vidda" got a huge "pop" from the crowd and was one of the top songs of the night. Mountain was next, and to be honest, we didn't care for them very much. Their last song was predictably "Mississippi Queen" and we thought it left something to be desired. Each of the three warm-up bands got in about 3 - 4 songs in about 20 - 25 minutes. (These were the shortest sets I've ever witnessed.) Well, Foghat was well worth the wait! They opened with "Fool For The City." Next was "Lousiana Blues," followed by "Stone Blue," "Motel Shaker," "Honey Hush," "It Hurts Me Too," "Sweet Home Chicago," "I Just Wanna Make Love To You" and as an encore, "Slow Ride." "I Just Wanna Make Love To You" and "Slow Ride," gave the crowd it's biggest thrills and that's what you would expect. The Band seemed to really enjoy themselves on stage. I noticed that Tony Stevens seemed more relaxed than the last time I had seen him. He really was having fun, playing with the crowd. Dave was his ususal, but he especially cracked me up when he commented about the revolving stage. He said something to the effect, "Is it me, or is the building moving around? I'm getting dizzy up here!" Well, Dave was also on target with his bright red high top Converse. What else better sybolizes the seventies? The group's set lasted about 70 minutes and of course, it seemed too short. I'm just glad that I had a chance to be there. I treated myself to a "Boogiemen" T-shirt and it looks great! Hey, if anybody out there has a chance to catch these guys perform, don't pass it up!

Wednesday - August 7th ..... Big Kahuna ..... Wilmington, DE

In the past week I had the pleasure of seeing Foghat perform three times. At Valley Forge and Westbury Music Fairs the band played to eager and enthusiastic audiences, with the band's performance equally lively and interactive. But, Foghat's performance last night at Wilmington's Big Kahuna was unleashed for 90 minutes of first-rate, dynamic, utopian rock. The red-hot guitar playing of Rod Price had our pulse rushing. When Lonesome Dave steps onto the stage he transforms into the performance artist with genuine star powered exuberance that held my attention for the entire show. He is agile, acrobatic, and always in powerful motion and emotion, captivating! Roger Earl's impassioned drumming was felt and recognized as audience members picked up their air sticks and tried to follow Roger's pace but found themselves dusted after only a few beats. Tony Stevens had our blood burning with his deep, bewitching bass playing and his smooth and charming character and style. The band is better than they have ever been. They have grown into who they have become and are in command of their music, their style and a little piece of our souls. The outdoor venue and pulsing crowd only heightened that emotional interaction somewhere between mind, body, and spirit where you feel the excitement, anticipation and release when music and pleasure become one and the same.

Thursday - August 22nd ..... The Backstage ..... Seattle, WA

What a killer time I had up there on Thursday evening. It was a great trip up and I even heard the boys on a local radio station that afternoon. The Backstage was just the perfect size and atmosphere for the show. I was down on the dance floor, right up front, with a beer in one hand and my Rock and Roll Outlaws album in the other. Dave was directly in front of me for the whole show. I felt just like one of the band, singing the songs and sucking up all the guitar licks. At the end of the Slow Ride, last song of the evening, I thought I felt something hit my arm. I suddenly realized that Dave had been tossing out guitar picks during the evening and wondered if that is what I had felt on my arm. I started to push back the crowd from the stage and sure enough, there it was. I bent down and picked up the pick Dave had used to perform Slow Ride. Think what I'll do is get one of those picture shadow boxes and set the guitar pick in the center, along with some of the other Foghat picks I purchased, and put a note next to it ... "Used by Lonsome Dave while performing Slow Ride at the Backstage August 22, 1996." Afterwards, I bought one of everything I could get my hands on and turned around to see the guys sitting at a table signing autographs. I walked over and handed my Rock and Roll Outlaws Album cover to Roger, who commented that it looked like it was in better shape than he was. I just kept moving down the table and got all of the guys to sign my album, talked with Dave a little, then left. Most excellent time ... most excellent!

Thursday - August 22nd ..... The Backstage ..... Seattle, WA

My first concert ever was Foghat ... opened by Rick Derringer, in the Seattle Coliseum (circa 1976'ish) (followed by more concerts everytime I could of course!). They were fantastic then, and they were fantastic tonight in Seattle, WA. Dave was his usual self, rallying the crowd with audience participation, actually going into the crowd at one point in the middle of a song. It has been years since I've seen Rod Price with Foghat. Tonight highlighted what we've been missing for far too long. Rod was plain *smoking* tonight (I was worried his guitar would spontaneously combust!). There is no other word that aptly describes his playing tonight. If you've ever been a Foghat fan, thought of being a Foghat fan, or at least heard of them, do yourself a large favor ..... catch this tour!!!

Thursday - August 22nd ..... The Backstage ..... Seattle, WA

What a show! From the moment they stepped on stage, you KNEW you were seeing and hearing someone special. After the opening band, it was obvious how far Foghat has come, and you could tell how far the opening band has yet to go. There's miles between the two. Foghat sounded TIGHT ... unbelieveably so. The 90 minute set had been honed to a very fine edge that only years of playing together can produce. Rod was impressive ... his slide guitar sliced right through the air and held everyone spellbound. Dave really got everyone going with his wild eyed antics and interaction with the audience. Roger's years at the drum set really show through, as few can compare to this one man percussion section. Tony is rock solid on bass, and plays as hard as ever. The four of them together create the magic of the Foghat experience. They opened the set with Louisiana Blues, and the more I hear it, the more I like it. They also did an outstanding job on Stone Blue, which I felt was the standout number of the evening, and also my first time hearing it live. Another treat was Drivin' Wheel, another live first for me. I was disappointed that they didn't play Jump That Train, which is my favorite cut from Return Of The Boogie Men, but they definitely made the most of their time while on stage. A lot of people were standing on the dance floor, and when they started playing I Just Want To Make Love To You, I had to join the crowd for a better view. It's always a pleasure to hear their first hit from their first album. They finished up with an encore by doing Fool For The City and Slow Ride. Afterwards, the crowd was buzzing about Rod's amazing guitar work, and what a great performance they had just seen. Some had not seen them since the 70s. I didn't meet anyone that knew about the website, so I passed the URL around to all who were interested. Later on, I had the opportunity to visit with Tony, Dave and Roger on the tour bus, before they came out to sign autographs. Dave was still wiping perspiration from his forehead, and was discussing the performance with Roger & Tony. They showed genuine concern about putting on a good show, and whether or not people liked it. I found them to be personable and friendly, and managed to thank them for a fine performance. They thanked me for the website, and seemed happy with what I had done. It was great to hear that face-to-face. The concert left me totally stoked for the next one!

Thursday - August 29th ..... Mystic Theatre ..... Petaluma, CA

Thanks to your E-mail and words to the effect of "YOU NEED TO SEE FOGHAT IN CONCERT ... DON'T MISS THIS SHOW!", I got tickets that day, and had an incredible time seeing Foghat live in a very small and intimate "old time" balcony and table type theatre. Dave, Rod, Tony, and Roger played for over 90 min., like you said, and put on a marvelous show. One of my favorite numbers was a great rendition of the old blues tune "Sweet Home Chicago". Later, they really brought the crowd to their knees when they blew the roof off the old Mystic Theatre with their encore performances of "Fool For The City", and "Slow Ride." WOW, what a night!!! After the show, they stuck around to chat with fans and sign albums and CDs. Thanks for recommending them to me. Thank you Foghat, for such a great show!

Sunday - September 1st ..... House Of Blues ..... West Hollywood, CA

The place was nearly full. A true compliment to the band according to the head of security I spoke with, he was very impressed with the 'hat's drawing power for a Sunday holiday weekend. Leslie West and Mountain opened up. They were good, as most seemed to enjoy the retro-sound. The 'hat came on and blasted out an intense version of Lousiana Blues. They were of course, tight as always, with Dave contibuting some masterful guitar work during Slow Ride. They also jammed madly during Honey Hush as the crowd recognized the intro and whooped it up throughout. They payed special tribute to the "Blues Theme" being at the House of Blues, with a KILLER VERSION of the classic cover, Sweet Home Chicago. The crowd was lovin' every sweet second. Rod jammed until we were all in a FOG. Roger pounded on his "kit" until some could be seen screamin' for mercy! Tony did his usual World Class bass thing and the entire band continued to mesmerize anyone in earshot. The 'hat is definately BACK! Bigger, better, and more energized than anytime in recent memory. If they make it NEAR your home town, sell the car and hitchhike, do whatever it takes to make the show. You'll walk home with blood in your ears and a smile on your face. Take it to the bank.

    Wednesday - September 4th ..... 4th & B ..... San Diego, CA

As a European in my twenties, I have never heard of a group named FOGHAT. Now I'm studying in San Diego and a friend of mine told me, "You like R&R? Go and see Foghat, they are really good!" So I took 3 of my friends and we went to the club. The audience consisted of mostly older people, I think we were the youngest. Before Foghat came on stage, Mercy House was playing which nobody seemed to like. After this band, Iciri's Witch came on stage and heated the place up with some good R&R. Then the moment everybody was waiting for - FOGHAT!!! The place was really hot, the people standing next to the stage were dancing and shakin' it up. Foghat played for two hours and it was the best gig I've ever seen. What makes it special? The interaction of the group, especially Dave with the audience. You as a spectator, have the feeling that you are part of the band. It was really great!! In fact, they were so good that a guy in a wheelchair was standing most of the time. They were so good that I was standing on my feet for 2 hours and it's very difficult because I have crutches. YOU ARE SO GOOD, YOU BRING THE PEOPLE OUT OF THE WHEELCHAIR AND LET THEM FORGET THEIR SORROWS! This way I want to thank you for a really memorable event!!! Stay as you are!!!!

    Wednesday - October 9th ..... Mama Kin's ..... Boston, MA

The show was outstanding. Foghat absolutely tore the place apart! Rod's slide playing was probably the best I've ever seen. The crowd was very responsive to EL CAMINO as well. Equally responsive was Foghat's road manager, who caught part of our set and apparently relayed his feelings to the band, who asked to meet us after the show. Needless to say, we were all thrilled. Their road manager personally escorted us to the meet and greet they were doing in the front room of the club and cleared the way for us to meet the mighty 'Hat! I've got to say, I've met a few rock stars in my day, but I'd have to say that Foghat is the most charming and unpretentious I've come across yet. A truly great experience. I had purchased a "Fog" hat earlier and they were all gracious enough to sign it. Roger's drum tech also gave me (a drummer myself) one of the sticks Roger had used during the show. Rod said he had heard we were very good and actually put his home address on our mailing list! Lonesome Dave was thoroughly impressed with our flyers, which always have '50s pinup girls on them and said he'd love a few to hang on the bus, "for inspiration". About an hour and a few pictures later, (I'll E-mail some photos when I get them) we all had HUGE smiles on our faces. They were a bit disapointed however, that they couldn't take our girlfriends with them on the bus! Just when we thought it was over, after our final goodbyes and the bus had started up, their road manager came running back in to give us his phone number and address. "Anything I can do to help, please give me a call. I can't believe you guys aren't signed." Amazing! An evening I shall not soon forget.

Saturday - October 12th ..... Letchworth Pines ..... Portageville, NY

Just wanted to let you know about Foghat's great show at Letchworth Pines 10/12/96. Saturday night was rockin'! They played the standard set. It was so good to hear them again since 1977, when they recorded their live album at the Dome Arena in Rochester NY. I got to shake the hand of Mr. Earl after the show. He really knows his double bass on Slow Ride. He makes it look so easy. Anyway, it was an excellent time and I hope they come back soon. Keep up the good work with this web site.

    --- John Schwittek

Saturday - October 26th ..... Roseland Theatre ..... Portland, Oregon (recording live)

It's gonna be an excellent CD and video, that's for damn sure! This was without a doubt, the finest performance I have ever seen. Not one hour, not an hour and a half, but two full hours of the finest rock and blues there ever was! They really outdid themselves. They played most of the songs from their regular 90 minute set. In addition to that, they dug deep into the blues barrell, and pulled out some classics they hadn't played live in 20 years, and there was also some brand new material, which was a real treat. They were all looking good on stage and sounded phenomenal. The sound system was excellent. Whoever was at the mixing board, had everything perfectly balanced. I felt like I was back in the 70s when they were at their peak, and believe it or not, they sounded even better this time. Since it was being recorded and filmed, the crowd was really into it ... enthusiastic to say the least. I talked to some different people that were there for both nights, and asked them which night they thought was better. With a few exceptions, the general consensus was that the second night was best ... which doesn't mean that the first night wasn't good by any means. People just liked the second night better for their own various reasons. One might speculate that with two performances, any wrinkles that were in the 1st, would be ironed out and perfected in the 2nd. My only disappointment was that I didn't get to hear a live "Chateau La Fitte '59 Boogie", my all time favorite song by them. Can't please everyone, though, and I'm not complaining one bit. Dave was a bundle of energy on stage, and did a great job with vocals and guitar ... as did Roger on his brand new drum set ... and Tony on bass. I can't say enough about Rod Price. How about "simply amazing," for starters? I'm guessing that the video will have some good close-ups of his excellent guitar work. Any time he would start getting into it, the camera was right there getting a close shot a of the action. Once again, I had the opportunity to visit with them before they came out to sign autographs ... definitely the highlight of the evening. And to all those that couldn't make it ... "YOU MISSED OUT!!!"

    Sayturday - November 2nd ..... Jimmy Z's ..... Everett, WA

Foghat was good again! In spite of some equipment and crowd problems. I especially enjoyed hearing It's Too Late. I really love it when Foghat pulls out some of their earlier music. This is the music we are still listening to (over and over and over and over again according to my wife), and to hear it live really puts new life into the earlier albums. And of course we're waiting for some live versions from Rock and Roll Outlaws. Due to where I was on the floor, I really had a chance to watch Tony closer tonight and I was impressed ... although I don't think Roger was when Tony threw something at him to startle him (I'm still not sure Roger knew who threw it). Watching Tony closer gave me a better appreciation for his input into the music. Play List: Going To Louisianna, Driving Wheel, Soakin' the Bone, Stone Blue, It's Too Late, Honey Hush, It Hurts Me Too, Sweet Home Chicago, I Just Want to Make Love to You. Encore: Slow Ride.

Sunday - November 3rd ..... Evergreen Ballroom ..... Olympia, WA (Last show of the tour.)

This was absolutely the best rock concert I've ever seen in Olympia. Until recently, it has never been known as a town to see top name recording artists. I could tell it was a real happening as soon as I drove up (an hour early). The parking lot was full and the place was packed. Thanks to Evin, who was kind enough to share his table with me, I had a good seat. There were two opening bands, both of which were very good. Then Foghat hit the stage and blasted out a wall of sound, beginning with Louisiana Blues. Halfway through that first number, technical difficulties set in and the P.A. system went dead. They finished the song with equipment that was still working, then took a five minute break, while their technicians fixed the problem. When they returned, all was normal again and we had the pleasure of listening to such numbers as Drivin' Wheel ... Stone Blue ... It Hurts Me Too ... Honey Hush (This was probably the finest version I've ever heard them do.) ... Sweet Home Chicago ... and I Just Want To Make Love To You. I thought the crowd could have been a little more responsive in getting them back out for an encore, but return they did, with Chevrolet ... Fool For The City ... and Slow Ride. The band appeared to be in good spirits, and it really showed in their music. Rod was really letting it fly with his amazing slide work. Dave was letting it fly for a while too, and kept the crowd going. Roger used his new drum kit like it was meant to be used, and like only Roger can do (A beautiful drum kit, BTW). This was actually the first time I've heard an audience talk about Tony's bass playing. There were a few there who could truly appreciate the fine job that he does. His playing was smooth, clean, and solid. The spotlight is always on Tony when leading into "I Just Want To Make Love To You." No one does it like Tony can. They came out afterwards to sign autographs, and signed my Rock And Roll Outlaws album. It was truly a memorable night for the last show of the tour.

Sunday - November 3rd ..... Evergreen Ballroom ..... Olympia, WA (Last show of the tour.)

Great show! A good crowd really has an input into the show. Rod outdid himself again (my wife was a bit worried when I got home and stated that if Rod started a cult, I'd join). Watching Rod made me wonder if a glass slide _could_ catch fire? This show included the best version of Honey Hush I think I've ever seen (and I can't recall a Foghat show without Honey Hush). Carl (your webmaster) even opined this version was better than the Portland live album version. There was a problem with the amps during Going to Louisianna (namely: half of them died along with the microphones). Dave was hilarious when he did his pantomime super-guitarist with no amp routine (picture your best air guitar impression when you were younger and you're close). Play List: Going To Louisianna, Driving Wheel, Soakin' the Bone, Stone Blue, It's Too Late, Honey Hush, It Hurts Me Too, Sweet Home Chicago, I Just Want To Make Love To You. Encore: Chevrolet, Fool for the City, Slow Ride.

Thank you Foghat, for this tour. I caught you three times and enjoyed every show. We look forward to the video and the live album (please don't short change us again with another single album though!). Hurry up with your (well earned) hiatus guys ... we'll be here for the next tour.

    Monday - December 30th ..... Triple A Bar ..... Baton Rouge, LA

I have seen Foghat dozens of times from the early days to now. The band has not missed a beat. They rocked the crowd out to a number of good songs. Rod Price and Lonesome Dave work masterfully together on guitar. In my opinion, Rod Price is the best slide guitar player there is. Tony and Roger sound great too. After the show, I got to meet them and got some albums autographed. These guys are the greatest. Lonesome Dave rules! Keep on rocking.
