10/01/99 ... Yakima, WA ... Central Wash. State Fair
The Quest: For those of you who were within driving distance... you missed a
pair of great shows! The show was about 3 hours from my home and was well
worth the drive (both ways!).
The Setting: Dusk on a sunny but cool afternoon. Sun setting behind the
stage. The guys just getting in from an incredibly long commute (they had
left their hotel in Houston, TX around 4:00am (2:00am local time!) to arrive
at this show before 6:00pm. It's cooling off rapidly (the temperature was
somewhere in the 60's at the start of the first show and dropped to somewhere
in the 40's by the end of the second set). The guys are tired, they're
cold... so they do what they do best. They Rock! If you were in the crowd you
would never have known any of the above without hearing Dave's thanks to the
crowd for the added energy (and it was a great crowd).
The Players: Dave was in top form all around but I felt his singing was
exceptional tonight and he really pulled in the crowd with his solo on It
Hurts Me Too. Besides being an incredibly nice guy, Bryan Bassett is Good.
Real Good, but I knew that from seeing him with Dave in the past! Bryan
looked like he was having fun up there and his own personal guitar licks
really enhanced and added to the Foghat "sound." (for anyone with doubts,
Bryan is a most welcome addition/returnee to Foghat in my view). Roger was
bang on as usual (pun intended). While I think he looks better behind his DW
set, he kept everything in synch and was sounding good to everyone there!
Tony looked like he was having alot of fun as well. I spent alot of time on
his end of the stage watching him play (I still love watching him go to town
at the end of Slow Ride)... I have even more appreciation of the Bass and his
talents. To quote Nickie Scarsone "move dem fingers fast!" (Make sure you
check out Tony's solo CD on the discography pages, it's a departure from
Foghat and really grows on you!)
The Songs: The combined set lists included the following songs; Home In My
Hand (Opened both sets), Drivin' Wheel, Angel Of Mercy (Sounded _great_ live),
Somebody's Been Sleeping In My Bed (Deja vu' for me with Bryan up there), Rock
Your House, Stone Blue (Bryan can Slide!), It Hurts Me Too (Dave reeled the
crowd in on this one!), Sweet Home Chicago (Enhanced intro with bass & drums),
Fool For The City, IJWMLTY, Slow Ride.
The Result: Foghat is a whole lot of fun to see at a fair as opposed to a
concert where everyone knows them... it's fun watching when the crowd becomes
completely hooked and coverted to fans.
News: Expect to see some official Foghat Guitar Tabs (yes!), updates to the
Equipment page including new shots of the current equipment as well as info on
Bryan's equipment, some more pictures on The Band pages, Lyrics for Tony's CD,
and a new tee shirt on the merchandise page.

Boogie Rock Legends Foghat in Concert
Review from ElectricBasement.com
Wednesday October 13th-Santa Ana, CA: Foghat may just be the last of a dying breed. Other than AC/DC and
a few others, no other artists embrace the rudimentary riffs and bluesy based structures of rock 'n' roll like Foghat.
In its 3 decades of existence, Foghat has delivered accessible, meltdown boogie rock for the masses, yet retained
credibility with their high octane blues covers.
The band, playing as well and brilliantly as ever, showcased both sides of the band's repertoire, rock and blues,
with much success. The rockers, "Home in My Hand", "Drivin' Wheel" and "Honey Hush" opened the show with a
frenzy. The band then shifted into blusier territory with "Sweet Home Chicago", "Louisiana Blues" and "It Hurts Me
Too." Although the crowd's recollection of the blusier tune's seemed fuzzy, the end of each brought huge applause
simply based on the band's outstanding playing. "Lonesome" Dave Peverett can be credited for keeping the "little
boy" feeling throughout the evening, grimacing and contorting with every note delivered from both his guitar and still
very powerful lungs.
The concert was brought to a boil with "Fool for the City" and "I Just Wanna Make Love to You." The band briefly
left the stage only to return with "Live Now, Pay Later," "What a Shame" and the barnstorming, crowd rousing
rendition of "Slow Ride" that deservedly encompassed ten minutes of increasingly fast guitar and drum batterings.
My only wish is that boys threw in a few other classics like "Stone Blue" and "Easy Money." Or perhaps "Ride,
Ride, Ride." At the same time, the band should be credited for not being afraid to throw in the obscure tune and
not bowing to a greatest hits revue. Either way, it was a thrilling show I'd see again in a heartbeat.
