SummerDaze

June 7 ... KauKauna, WI ... River Jam Fair
FOGHAT was by far the best act there. I've seen them four times now and they always rock. The set was way to short but I guess they had to make room for far less talented bands like Steppenwolf and Night Ranger. Pat Travers was real good, the man can play and BOC did a good job also, but Foghat should have been the main act. Dave's voice is still great and Rod really lets it's scream from start to finish. Tony and Roger held it all together even though they got real bad sound. Seems the headliners have to take away from the others to make themselves sound better ... it didn't work, Foghat still ruled. When we saw them about six weeks ago in Amery, WI they put on one of the best shows I have ever seen. They come out and signed autographs for whoever wanted them. Thanks Foghat. If you ever get a chance to see Foghat in a small club or a headlining act go, you will not be disappointed.

June 8 ... Detroit, MI ... Pineknob Amphitheatre
Man, what a band! And what a web-site! I've been a Foghat fan for 20 years now and was ecstatic to hear that they had reunited and were touring again. I went to the Summerdaze concert in Detroit on June 8th and was completely blown away!! They were by far the tightest and most rockin' band on the bill. They sounded better than ever. The only drawback was a short 45-minute set. I anxiously look forward to a full length show here in Toledo soon in order to hear a more complete history of the band's awesome songs. Keep up the great work! Favorite album: Stone Blue ..... Favorite song: "Midnight Madness"

June 8 ... Detroit, MI ... Pineknob Amphitheatre
After seeing the SummerDaze show at Pine Knob, MI, it confirmed for me and my buddy that Foghat still rocks as heavy as usual. I love Blue Oyster Cult and Foghat is one of my favorites as well; in my opinion SummerDaze could have been even better had the (so called) "headliners" (if just playing last makes you the headliner) had been stronger than a group that hasn't had any impact on music since the early 70's. Man can that Rod Price play guitar. My favorites are not any of the ones that you mention on the opening page; I like "Live", "Night Shift" and "Stone Blue" the best, with "Outlaws" next. If you have any information past September on tour dates if they're still on the road, we would love to catch them again. I could kick myself because I found this web page only one week after the Sheridan, MI show, which is only a half hour from me. Anyway, I hope Foghat keeps rocking because we will keep showing up. I'm trying to think of the movie where there was a line that kind of ripped Foghat, I think it was Jerry Maguire but I'm not sure, the line was something like ".. about as predictable as a Foghat concert." I hope if they heard that they were able to laugh about it. Also got a laugh at a Simpsons rerun where a guy at a radio station or something is wearing a Foghat T-shirt.

June 13 ... Westbury, NY ... Westbury Music Fair
Great show! The crowd was really into it, Pat Travers came on first he played a 30 minute set which included "Snortin Whiskey Drinking Cocaine" only disapointment he didn't play "Boom Boom Out Goes The Lights." Foghat came on next, they played a 45 minute, 6 song set, which was "I Just Want To Make Love To You," "Drivin' Wheel," "Love Ain't Nothing But Trouble," "Sweet Home Chicago," "Fool For The City" and "Slow Ride" in that order. This was the 4th time in 3 years I have seen the reunited Foghat and that was the first time I'd seen them play "Drivin' Wheel" also each time I'd seen them they played a different song off "Return Of The Boogie Men." Blue Oyster Cult came on next and played a 50 minute set which included "Burnin' For You," "Godzilla," and "Don't Fear The Reaper." Then Steppenwolf came on and played a 50 minute set which included "Magic Carpet Ride," "Rock Me Baby" and the last song of the evening "Born To Be Wild." A four-band, four-hour show with 5th row seats in a great arena like Westbury which holds 2000 people, and the bands play in the round for $27.50, you can't beat it!!!!

June 18 ... Pittsburgh, PA ... IC Light Amphitheatre
Hello! I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your Foghat page. I had a chance to see Foghat for the first time this summer on the Summer Daze '97 tour stop in Pittsburgh. I have to say that I was blown away. I have been a long time Steppenwolf fan (this was about my 14th or 15th 'wolf concert) and thought that John Kay had put together a great line-up for the tour. Now I am hoping to catch Foghat in a club to see their full set.

June 19 ... Indianapolis, IN ... Deer Creek Music Center
Saw the deer creek show in Indianapolis. Thanx guys, for letting us know that you guys still rock like a roll. The show was great. This guy that plays slide is incredible to see live. The vocals were totally right on. It was great to see half the 12,000 fans up and rockin' to the hits. I'm going to find and buy the latest stuff. I am a totally regenerated Foghat fan.

June 20 ... Memphis, TN ... Mud Island Amphitheatre
Wanted to let you know how much Mark & I enjoyed last Friday's show in Memphis. Dave and the guys performed second after Pat Travers, played for about 45-50 minutes. They did Slow Ride; Love Ain't Nothin' But Trouble; Sweet Home Chicago; Fool for the City; Just Want To Make Love and Drivin' Wheel. Even though their set was shorter than usual, it packed all the high energy and genuineness of a longer show. The crowd enjoyed Travers, but really didn't start rockin' until Foghat got going! I heard someone comment in the row behind us after their set: "Damn, those guys can STILL ROCK N' ROLL!" (Of course, we knew that already!!)

Before the show, I got a chance to chat with Roger and Rod briefly. (THANKS, GUYS!!) They said the tour was going well, being received by crowds enthusiastically. Had experienced bus problems the previous night after the Indy show enroute to Memphis. Things had been repaired, however. Roger and Rod looked good and none the worse for wear from being out on the road for awhile. Wanted to see Dave and Tone (Tone was in rare form on the guitar that nite!!) after the show, but missed them. Hope I didn't miss an impromptu show at a little club on Beale Street later that night. I think they might have loaded up and headed out for Atlanta after finishing their set.

Was a VERY HOT and HUMID evening; don't think I woulda made it through a full-length Foghat show. The ampitheatre at Mud Island is right on the river and the seating is all concrete, so you can imagine how WARM it was that night. The full moon rose over the river, the view made a neat backdrop to the stage. Could have stood some A/C, though! Hadn't been to Memphis since 1988 for a show - saw Dan Fogelberg at Mud Island in July of that year - talk about hot!!! That was a record-breaking summer for heat!! Recently read the Prodigy chat transcripts from his on-line interview earlier this month; he is a favorite (one of many) singer-songwriter of mine. Would like to see Prodigy do a live chat with Foghat sometime - think they would go for it?? Blue Oyster Cult came on after Foghat; also a fave band of mine. They were really great! Hadn't seen them in concert since 1981 (also with the 'HAT) in Nashville! They can still ROCK, too!! Left halfway through Steppenwolf's set; they were never a real favorite of mine; they were a little before my obsession with rock and roll began. Still and all, a good night was had by all; the crowd seemed to enjoy all the bands and every had alot of fun.

June 21 ... Atlanta, GA ... Chastain Park
I just witnessed the summer daze tour and without a doubt Foghat stole the show. Pat Travers & Steppenwolf were okay. Blue Oyster Cult ... what's the point with them? Rod and the boys were definitely hotter than the June night in Atlanta. At Chastain park there is a volume limit unfortunately, and Rod's guitar was somewhat subdued but Lomesome Dave was in primo voice. They were the only band there that got the yuppie crowd off their ass! Thank you Carl, from a beginner on the net I'm sure I do a lot wrong here but I appreciate your loyalty to the band. How about getting Foghat hooked up with the Allman Bros ... what a show that would be!!!!!

Thur ... June 26 ... Reno, NV ... Hilton Amphitheatre
My heartfelt thanks to Gary Duarte for his hospitality and friendship. And thanks to Evin Mulron for coming along. If it weren't for Gary's invitation and Evin's "yes," I wouldn't have seen this outstanding concert which rates right up there at the top with the best I've ever seen. As (the original) webmaster for the Foghat site, I knew about the SummerDaze tour about a year ago. After tracking it that long, the anticipation was building. Then came the big let-down when I discovered that it would not be coming to the Pacific Northwest. Foghat, Pat Travers, Steppenwolf, and Blue Oyster Cult are four of my favorite bands. Any one of them could easily be a concert headliner. There's no way I'm going to say that one band was better than the other because they were all excellent.

With a good crowd on hand, it was still daylight when Pat Travers came on stage. This was my first time seeing Pat play live. With only 3 people in his band, they had a big sound. His set lasted approx. 35 minutes. "Ice Queen" from his latest CD was sounding good. "Snortin' Whiskey & Drinkin' Cocaine" got the crowd's interest, as people were still coming in. "Boom Boom Out Go The Lights" really got the crowd warmed up. Pat put on a great show ... I only wish that he would have played longer.

It was just starting to get dark when Foghat came on stage. They jumped right into "I Just Want To Make Love To You" which was a big crowd pleaser. By now, the crowd was in a serious boogie mood as they cranked out "Drivin' Wheel," "Love Ain't Nothing But Trouble" and "Sweet Home Chicago." When they started in with "Fool For The City," even some of the ushers were dancing in the aisles. "Slow Ride" capped off the set which lasted approx. 45 minutes. The guys sounded great and the crowd was really into it. Rod continues to impress people with his expertise on slide. My only complaint was about the sound mixer ... Rod's guitar didn't stand out like I thought it should. And that could have been due to where I was sitting. Dave interacts with the crowd as only Dave can. Tony looked and sounded great as he was right out front when their set began. Roger is better than ever on drums. Again ... I only wish they would have played longer. This was my 5th time seeing the re-united Foghat with ALL the original members. They get better every time I see them.

There was very good organization with the stage crews which kept slack-time to a minimum between bands ... the best I'd ever seen. Daylight was gone which gave maximim effect for the light show as Blue Oyster Cult came on stage. This was my second time in about 15 years seeing these guys play, and believe it or not, they were 10 times better this time around. The main reason I like this band is because of Buck Dharma, the lead guitarist. This guy is truly amazing and definitely one of the best. He played a wild looking custom guitar that looked as though the top of it had been cut off. I have no idea how the strings were adjusted. Their first song was "Cities On Flame With Rock And Roll." I was happy to see them playing some of their earlier stuff. Their 50 minute set included "Burnin' For You," "Don't Fear The Reaper," and "Godzilla." Unfortunately, I had to listen to the last half of the set backstage so I could visit with Foghat before they left. There's a lot going on backstage when 4 bands are performing the same night. Blue Oyster Cult's music has kind of a metal edge to it and didn't fit in as well as the others which are all blues-based. Nonetheless, it was a pleasure to see them play again. It was a great performance and they were well received by the crowd.

I've gotta hand it to Steppenwolf. This band was the surprise of the evening for me. This was my first time seeing them play live, and it was a stunning performance, indeed. They started off with "Sookie Sookie," which the crowd loved along with "Rock Me Baby." We were treated to a beautiful rendition of "Hootchie Kootchie Man," the old Willie Dixon blues number. When they played "Magic Carpet Ride," the crowd went crazy. I had been hearing that "Born To Be Wild" would be the last song of the night, and the crowd went absolutely nuts over this one which is one of my all time favorites. A few people started leaving, but the rest of the crowd wouldn't shut up and kept cheering, wanting more. Just when I thought it wouldn't happen, they came back out and played "Pusher Man." Unbelieveable, is all I can say. It was the best of Steppenwolf right there on stage! Evin & I were noticing John Kay. It looks like he hasn't aged. Is he the Dick Clark of classic rock? The Steppenwolf set lasted approx. 50 minutes and the whole concert was 4 hours. Everyone got their money's worth that night. The Hilton, which has more money than the rest of the world pulled out all the stops putting this one on. The stage was enormous, as was the sound system and light show. The whole event was capped off by a fireworks display! Truly a memorable concert. If you ever have a chance to see any one of these bands perform, do whatever it takes ... just go, you won't be disappointed!

June 27 ... Los Angeles, CA ... Universal Amphiteatre
As a radical by-product of the seventies, I had heard the music from these four bands many times. I had not seen any of them live in concert though. What I will tell you is that Foghat stole the show!! They could have easily headlined! Their cover of "Sweet Home Chicago" rocked the house. Mr. Price is a real talent and could be listened to non-stop. I will definitely recommend this concert to all my buds.

June 27 ... Los Angeles, CA ... Universal Amphiteatre
I saw The Summer Daze Tour at the Universal Amphitheatre in L.A. in June and it was a great show. I love Foghat and Blue Oyster Cult and it was a dream come true to finally see them live. My only regret is that Foghat didn't get to play longer. I hope they come to L.A. again soon, only this time by themselves, as I could have watched them for hours and not get tired. All in all it was a great show. Even Steppenwolf sounded good and I saw them back in 1967. Your website is fantastic. I visit yours and B.O.C. at least every couple of weeks. Thank you for the good job.
