    Poor Girl
    (4:05)
    Stevens

    This is a story "bout a poor girl, a story that you ought to know
    She lives all alone in a one room flat on the street where the lights are low
    And every night about the same time, she go and put her glad rags on
    Goes to the place where everyone goes to boogaloo all night long
    She's a poor girl

    Born and raised in the country, she got tired of pushing a plow
    She came by train to the city and mother, you should look at her now
    With her rattlesnake boots, elephant bag, genuine crocodile hat
    Around her neck, to top it off, she even wears a persian cat
    She's a poor girl

    {Instrumental}

    That was the story of the poor girl, but now she uses her head
    She's back home workin' on the land instead of playing in bed
    The fast life she was living took her as its' prey
    Now she's back in the country gettin' fatter every day
    She's a poor girl

    Well, you got a new man and that's good for you
    And you've got alot of money, but what good will that do
    When he leaves you on the side and the money falls away
    You'll come runnin' back baby, heed what I say
    Money can't save your soul, you better leave now while it still ain't old
    Money can't ease your mind, come back and leave it all behind

    You're in his house and it sure looks fine
    With three other girls, but you're the first in line
    And what will happen when your time comes 'round?
    Money will go and you'll be homeward bound
    Money can't save your soul, you better leave now while it still ain't old
    Money can't ease your mind, come back and leave it all behind

    Looking In
    (5:14)
    Simmonds /
    Peverett

    Looking in from the outside, I wish my mind could read the score
    Someday a door will open, then I'll know, then I'll see, what I'm striving for
    If I could get an answer, if someone would give me a clue
    I know I'd feel much better, but I can't find anyone to put my question to
    When I'm old and wiser, I'll look back on my youth
    Will I be contented? Or will I see nothing but a vain search for the truth?

    {Instrumental}

    When I'm old and wiser, I'll look back on my youth
    Will I be contented? Or will I see nothing but a vain search for the truth?
    I wish I knew better baby, my mind wouldn't be so sore
    Someday a door will open, then I'll know, then I'll see, what I'm striving for

    {Instrumental}

    Well I know you're built for action, but you just live your life too fast
    If you don't slow down pretty soon, your good days will have passed
    So take it easy baby, there ain't no need to worry
    The world won't end tonight, so tell me whats the hurry

    You shoud enjoy the long, long journey, savor every hill and bend
    You're gonna get there sooner or later, so don't worry 'bout the end
    Just take it easy baby, there ain't no need to worry
    The world won't end tonight, so tell me whats the hurry

    You know the law of gravity says what goes up has to come down
    And the faster you reach the limit, the sooner you'll come to ground
    So, take it easy baby, there ain't no need to worry
    The world won't end tonight, so tell me whts the hurry

    You know, you shouldn't worry 'bout the future while you are still well in your prime
    Just take it as you find it, ad you'll enjoy it every time
    Just take it easy baby, there ain't no need to worry
    The world won't end tonight, so tell me whats the hurry

    Take your time

    Leavin' Again
    (8:26)
    Stevens, Peverett

    See ya' later alligator
    I'm leavin' again, long way to go
    It's a sad sad feeling, we already know
    Ticket's bought and the contract's signed
    It's too late to change my mind

    Leavin' again, help me pack my case
    I'll be a long long time, in another place
    I'm working for something, and it ain't no lie
    It could have taken me, a lifetime to buy

    {Instrumental}

    I'm leavin' again when the night has gone
    So lets make love, while to time, time rolls on
    Time rolls on to another day
    And this time tomorrow I'll be gone so far away
    I'm leavin' , leavin'

    {Instrumental}

    I'm leavin' when the night, the night has gone
    So lets make love while the time rolls on
    The time rolls on, rolls on to another day
    This time tomorrow, I'll be so, so, so far away
    I'm leavin', Yes [ ? ], I'm cuttin' out, [ ? ]
    Oooh whoa I'm leavin', Ooooh whoaa

    {Instrumental}

      Kim Simmonds - Guitar, Piano
      Lonesome Dave - Vocals, Guitar
      Roger Earl - Drums
      Tone Stevens - Bass

      1970 - Decca Records
      Distributed by Deram
      Produced by Kim Simmonds
      Arranged by Savoy Brown
      Engineered by Paul Tregurtha/Eric Holand

    With flamboyant lead vocalist Chris Youlden's decision to quit Savoy Brown's ranks in mid 1970, the remaining quartet pledged to continue purely as a foursome, guitarist Lonesome Dave Peverett assuming Youlden's role as he had occasionally done in the past when his cigar, fur coat and top hat-sporting compatriot was unavailable.

    Just when it seemed the band might finally be making their long overdue international breakthrough (Looking In hit #50 in the sceptred Isles for 7 days), Simmonds broke up the aggregation owing, he told press men, to a difference of opinion over future musical direction. Peverett, Stevens and drummer Roger Earl(e) then assembled their own unit, Foghat, where they were augmented by electric and slide guitarist Rod Price, previously with Shakey Vic's Blues Ensemble and Black Cat Bones, but at the time of viewing the trio's Melody Maker advertisement in the 'Musicians Wanted' columns driving a wine truck to make ends meet.

    Playing the kind of blues-based rock for which Savoy Brown had become famous, they settled in the States, eventually obtained visas to work, and followed Savoy Brown's policy of tireless touring. It paid handsome dividends in the shape of a lengthy string of hit singles and long-players for Albert Grossman's Bearsville label.
