West Four is my childhood, the day that I was baptized in the blues. I wish I could remember the exact time. I guess I was around fourteen. Big Bill Broonzy's fatherly voice caressed my soul. David Graham's guitar playing showed me the world out there. Listening to Muddy Waters, I realized I wanted to be him but I couldn't be. The influences of this had already touched me. Scrapper Blackwell, Duster Bennett, Elmore James - all came to bless me in their own special way. I was a child waiting to be touched by something magic. All of them gave me that, the spirit of blues.
This album is a young child's thoughts and an old man's love. This musical journey has taken many years. As I have traveled I have seen many souls and heard so much music. It seems to me that my God sent me in a particular direction - the direction of my heart. I hope that you understand what I have just said, for it is the truth. This album is the true Rod Price.
